Routes

Trail mark

The Pentland Hills Regional Park offers many routes for people to enjoy.

Download our Visitors guide and map. It shows the 100km network of marked paths that are regularly maintained. There are also non-waymarked, unmaintained paths in the hills.

Our popular starting-off points (Threipmuir, Harlaw, Bonaly and Flotterstone) can become extremely busy, so why not look for alternative places to start and finish your walk? You can find out more about Core Paths which lead into the Pentland Hills here:

City of Edinburgh Core Paths

Midlothian Core Paths

West Lothian Core Paths

Scottish Borders Core Paths

If setting off on a walk, we recommend you read our Safety in the hills page. You should be adequately equipped for the route you intend to do, and aware of potential weather issues.
