Pentland Hills Voluntary Ranger Service

How to become A Voluntary Ranger

To become a Voluntary Ranger you need to have some knowledge and an enthusiasm for the Pentland Hills, be able to communicate well with people and have a reasonable level of fitness.

Before you become a Voluntary Ranger there is a training period, in which you:

  • Accompany a Natural Heritage Officer for three weekend days,
  • shadow a Voluntary Ranger (optional)
  • attend a training weekend (usually takes place in November)
  • and complete a Disclosure Scotland check.

On completing the training, we would like Voluntary Rangers to commit to eight days a year.

Please contact us for an application form.
