PENTLAND HILLS REGIONAL PARK

Welcome to the Pentland Hills. The Regional Park encompasses a stunning range of medium-sized hills stretching from the City of Edinburgh Bypass down to Carlops. Three local authorities cover the area, which is a mixture of publicly-owned land (such as Hillend, Bonaly, and Harlaw), and private land used for farming and sport shooting. Please contact us if you can't find the answer to your enquiry here. We recommend downloading our map and information leaflet to orientate yourself to the area.

News in brief

DREGHORN CAR PARK The car park at Dreghorn will be closed to all motor vehicles from 31 July 2017. This is due to construction works being undertaken by MoD contractors. Visitors to the Regional Park will still be able to access Dreghorn by non-motorised transport. Monitor this page for information on when the car park will re-open.

BLACK SPRINGS CAUSEWAY The causeway at Black Springs (Threipmuir) will be closed to all users UNTIL THURSDAY 27th JULY while essential reservoir maintenance work takes place. There will be heavy machinery on site, and people are advised to avoid the crossing as no alternative route will be in place.  Monitor this page for updates. Many thanks.

Flotterstone Information Centre The centre closed in July 2017. Information on the Regional Park is still available, located on the outside of the building, which will be reopening as a catered facility in the near future, providing coffee and paninis! Please note we now suggest a car park donation of £2 at Flotterstone; proceeds go towards the Regional Park.

Land Management Activities

The lambing season has come to an end, but dog owners are still asked to take care around livestock, and make sure their dog is always under close control. Ground-nesting birds are looking after their nests just now, so this is just as important on the open moorland.

12th August marks the start of grouse shooting season.
