Organise an event in Pentlands
We seek to ensure a balanced and sustainable programme of organised events in the Regional Park. If you are planning an event you will probably need the permission of relevant land managers. The guidance below helps to achieve this whilst ensuring land management operations can take place unhindered, other visitors' enjoyment can continue, and the environment is respected.
You may find this document useful in addition.
If your event involves usage of any of the Regional Park's reservoirs, please also refer to Guidance how to use water responsibly. If after reading these guidelines you require further assistance please contact us.
Once you have submitted your events form to us, we distribute it to relevant landowners and land-managers for consideration. If they have questions or concerns about the event, they will either contact the event organiser directly or through us. They may also pass their concerns to us through the Pentland Land Managers Association. We are now intending to have regular meetings throughout the year to discuss proposed events: in attendance at these meetings will be landowner representatives as well as event organiser representatives. These meetings are necessary to ensure that the number and size of events within the Regional Park is sustainable, as well as ensuring that events are run in a responsible manner which does not cause concern to landowners (much of the land in the Regional Park is very sensitive to events as paths are often degraded, or are merely desire-lines on open peatland). Due to the timings of these meetings, it is essential that you submit your proposal in plenty of time. There is no charge at present to run an event, although we strongly encourage events to donate to our donations scheme: money from this scheme is earmarked for projects which improve footpaths, gates, fences, signage and other park infrastructure.
See below for a complete list of events planned for 2024. Some of these events are awaiting landowner permission and may not go ahead. Note that if an event requires landowner permission, they are not obligated to provide it. However, we work closely with all landowners and land managers to ensure that fair consideration is given to all events, including suggestion of alternative routes.
