Scottish Outdoor Access Code
Scottish Outdoor Access Code
The Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 provides a right of responsible access over much of Scotland's land and inland water. The Scottish Outdoor Access Code gives guidance on how to access the countryside responsibly, whether walking on your own, in a group or taking your dog. The Code also provides guidance for camping, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding and various water sports.
The code is based on three key principles:
- Respect the interests of other people
- Care for the environment
- Take responsibility for your own actions
Much of Scotland is accessible under the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, with exceptions including crop fields, gardens, industrial areas and active felling sites and some farm yards. This right of access comes with the responsibility to respect other users of the land.
If you have a question about access in the Regional Park, please contact us and we will put you in touch with the relevant local authority Access Officer if we are unable to provide an immediate resolution.
