Become a Voluntary Ranger

How to become a Voluntary Ranger

To become a Voluntary Ranger you need to have some knowledge and an enthusiasm for the Pentland Hills, be able to communicate well with people and have a reasonable level of fitness.

Before you become a Voluntary Ranger there is a training period, in which you:

  • accompany a Natural Heritage Officer for three weekend days
  • shadow a Voluntary Ranger (optional)
  • attend a training weekend

On completing the training, we would like Voluntary Rangers to commit to eight days a year.
